Nearly half of all Australians (48 percent) use the television as their main source of information, streets ahead of newspapers (22 percent) and radio (19 percent), according to a Roy Morgan survey.

And, although the Internet is new for respondents it is allready making an impact with 36% respondents using it for their primary news source, yesterday’s figures convey a strong suggestion that this figure will rise as the 18-24 year-olds age.

Sixteen percent of this group – or double the average across all age groups – reported using the Internet as their main information source. Only 14 percent relied on the radio, but newspapers still attracted 20 percent of them.

West Australians (12 percent) were the most dependent on the Internet as their primary source of information followed by New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia/Northern Territory (8 percent each) and Tasmania (2 percent).
