OZ To Miss Out On Google TV

The Australian market is set to miss out on Google TV untill mid 2011 when new Android applications that are compatible with Google TV are made available. Both Logitech and Sony are set to launch Google TV offerings this month. The Sony device will be built into a TV while Logitech is asking consumers to purchase yet another box.

Last night Google launched a teaser page for the platform detailing some of its first features, including apps and AirPlay-like media sharing. The app will have optimised versions of TV-shows and movies along with access to Amazon MP3 and Twitter.
Current Android applications don’t yet work, due to resolution sizing issues similar to what Android tablet Tablet manufacturers are facing.
Google TV devices will use Android 2.2 .Google said that there will be both Android and iPhone apps to steer a Google TV device without using its bundled remote.
The platform continues to focus first on integration between traditional TV and the web, with both support for Flash and HTML5 video, regular web browsing and program info from a connected set-top box.
First devices using Google TV ship overseas this month and should be unveiled in Australia next year, including the Logitech Revue this week and the Sony Bravia GT1 next week.
The Logitech Revue is tipped to be up to $100 more expensive than the Apple TV offering in Australia.
