Panasonic: First 4K Video Recording Compact Camera

Panasonic has launched the world’s first digital compact camera with 4K Quad Full HD video recording capabilities using a 20.1 megapixel 1-inch sensor for stunning photos and video.

The Lumix range of cameras from Panasonic has been joined by the Lumix DMC-FZ1000, the world’s first digital compact photo camera with 4K Quad Full HD video recording for playback on the newest 4K Ultra HD televisions.
Equipped with a large, 1-inch 20.1 megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor which is 4x larger than conventional sensors, FZ1000 captures clear photos with minimal noise, even when shot at high ISO levels.
Featuring a brand new Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens system with 16x optical zoom and powerful quad-core processor to handle 4K video recording at 3840 x 2160 resolution, the camera also features the performance-boosting Venus Engine image processor with multi-process noise reduction for less noise and more detail.

The DMC-FZ1000 can record 4K video in segments of up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds each, from which 8 megapixel frames can be output as single images, using “Ultra High Speed (UHS) Class 3” SDXC/SDHC memory cards, which guarantee the constant minimum write speeds of 30MB/s for recording 4K res video files.

Super fast auto focus (AF) is also a new feature thanks to a dedicated motor built-in to the focus system, which is enhanced by Depth From Defocus (DFD) technology that shortens the focus time even further.
Using DFD, Panasonic says this “calculates the distance to the subject by evaluating 2 images with different sharpness level while consulting the data of optical characteristics of the current lens in a moment”, which means ultra high speed AF of approximately 0.09 sec at the wide end and approximately 0.17 sec at tele-end.
Couple this with a fast start-up time of approximately 0.66 seconds and a short release time lag, the FZ1000 does its utmost to ensure you won’t miss any moments.
No modern gadget would be complete without an ability to pair with a smartphone or tablet app, and here, the FZ1000 does not disappoint.
Wi-Fi connectivity is built-in, as is NFC, to offer a more flexible shooting experience and instant image sharing, as well as communicate with Panasonic’s “Image App”.
The app allows “remote shooting of both stills and video is possible by using the smartphone/tablet for a remote shutter with a monitor”, with Panasonic saying that “you can release the shutter, zoom, focus and set shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation with a smartphone or tablet.”

Other features include stunning macro shots with a minimum focusing distance of 3cm, a live view function to adjust highlight and shadow features using the front or rear dial, a Level Gauge to detect the horizontal and vertical angle of view, and an Intelligent Auto Plus mode to help beginners capture great photos and videos in all conditions without needing to first master all the capabilities of their new camera.
A range of accessories is also available, from a new and powerful external flash to a stereo/shotgun microphone and various filters and lens protectors.
The Lumix DMC-FZ1000 is available in Australia for $1199, with more information available at Panasonic’s website.
