Panasonic Flashes Smallest HD Camcorder

Panasonic has launched two new full high definition camcorders, including one model which it claims is the smallest full HD camcorder in Australia today. Complementing the launch is a new range of high capacity flash memory, with a 16GB memory card coming soon.

The two new camcorders (SD5 and SX5) can record with up to 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, and utilize Panasonic’s 3CCD camera system. Also incorporated is advanced optical image stabilization technology to minimise hand shake issues. Both cameras record using the AVCHD format and sport Leica lenses.

Recording onto SDHC or SD memory cards, the SD5 is Australia’s smallest full HD camcorder, according to Panasonic. Up to 180 minutes of video can be recorded on one of the company’s new 8GB SHDC memory cards, or up to 360 minutes on the upcoming 16GB memory card.

The memory cards deliver data transfer speeds of 20MB/s, the company says, which is fast enough for broadcast and professional DSLR camera use.

The SX5 can also record on both SDHC and SD memory cards, as well as onto DVD via the MPEG 2 format. Much like Sony’s strategy of easy interlinking for all its electronic gear for the home, Panasonic has included memory slots into its latest plasma TVs, and its Blu-ray players can read these recordable mini DVDs for quick playback of home movies. Other connectivity options for the camcorders include HDMI, Viera Link (so you can operate the camcorder via a Viera Linked Panasonic TV) and USB (on the SD5 only).

Editing software is included, as is an IR remote control, USB, component and AV cables.

RRP:

SD5: $1899
SX5: $1799
