Panasonic Releases Battery System Built For Australian Households

A new residential storage battery system from Panasonic will soon be available on the Australian market.

The 5.3 kilowatt (kWh) system has been tested by Panasonic in households across the country, with the company’s lithium-ion battery technology performing well with solar systems across a wide range of climate conditions.

“We’re now evolving with this new 5.3kWh battery system, to support the needs of Australians who have adopted clean solar energy, balancing affordability, capacity and performance and delivering for retailers and consumers alike,” said Panasonic Australia’s managing director Paul Reid.

Energy companies including ActewAGL and Red Energy have partnered with Panasonic to market the residential storage battery system in Australia, working closely to ensure the system meets the needs of Australian households.

“The Panasonic brand is a well-known and trusted brand in Australia and synonymous with quality and reliability and the latest release of the new battery system follows in that tradition,” said Red Energy GM of sales, storage solutions & regulatory affairs Ramy Soussou.

Research from Panasonic has shown that household battery storage systems can help reduce dependence on the grid by 30 to 60 per cent.

“ActewAGL customers are seeing positive results from their solar and battery system; for example, our first installation created expected savings of up to 50% on one family’s annual electricity bill,” said ActewAGL GM retail Ayesha Razzaq.

The system provides households access to clean solar energy during peak periods, providing savings in both the household energy bill and the grid infrastructure expenses of energy companies.

Panasonic’s LJ-SK56A Li-ion system will be available from December.
