Parents’ Guide to Video Games

A new Parents’ Guide to Video Games is designed to demystify the world of gaming for anyone whose children spend their spare time on the Xbox, PlayStation or PC.

The guide, released by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) is available as a free download and will help parents get a better understanding of video games and their content.

The guide was written by Anthony Hetrih, a games journalist and member of the Classification Review Board. He discusses topics such as why kids enjoy video games and parental concerns. He also offers parents some tips and hints on buying games.

“We want to give parents a better understanding of this form of interactive entertainment, so they can feel confident that they are well equipped to make informed decisions about what their children are playing,” according to ACMI’s games curator, Helen Stuckey.

“It also provides an even-handed, independent assessment, that is free of any commercial agendas.”
