Not yet available in Australia the TV is expected in the second half of 2008.
This is the same Company that wants consumers to buy their Ambilight TV’s that light up like a Xmas tree when turned on.
Called the Eco Flat TV it has been designed to reduce power usage in the Ambilight TV’s with the Philips claiming that the light output is dimmed to help reduce the set’s overall power draw – all, according to Philips, without compromising the picture quality.
A sensor monitors the surrounding ambient lighting level and adjusts the brightness of the TV’s backlight accordingly. Philips calls the feature Ambilight. Most other vendors do not have this technology as research shows that very few consumers are interested in Ambilight technology.
When the Eco Flat TV’s in standby mode, it consumes less than 0.15W of electricity. We’re not sure how much electricity the average TV consumes in standby mode.
However we do know that several TV makers are aiming for a standby usage of less than 0.10W.
