Both the HTS8140 and HTS6100 have a single speaker unit and subwoofer, and are complemented by a tabletop stand.
The HTS8140 fits with any of Philips latest LCD TVs and has a flatter speaker system with a refinement of the angled driver positioning and touch screen controls. The HTS8140 also uses Philips FullSound – this is a dedicated digital signal processor, which enhances compressed MP3 audio file quality, outputting a richer sound experience from MP3 data sources, claims Philips.
Standard format DVD discs are enhanced via true HD video upscaling, which delivers super-sharp, 1080p video output. Screen imagery is further improved on the unit through the inclusion of the latest Faroudja DCDi technology, producing sharp, high-quality video.
Also included is EasyLink, allowing for easy control of connected devices via HDMI CEC. Portable personal music player functionality is optimised with the inclusion of an iPod dock for media playback with on-screen control. An MP3 link allows consumers to play music from other portable music players. Connectivity is further augmented with a built-in USB Link, which enables photos and music output from USB flash drives.
