Pro Surface Tablet With i5 Processor To Go On Sale Feb 9

The new Microsoft Surface Windows 8 Pro tablet will be launched in Australia on February 9th with several retailers set to range the device that runs full versions of Windows software and has an Intel i5 processor. The new offering follows the launch of the Tegra-based Surface RT tablet which has struggled to attract consumers after it was initially only available online. Now the device is available at selected retailers.

The Surface RT was aimed at the tablet market; however, the Surface Windows 8 Pro will essentially serve as Microsoft’s own competitor in the ultrabook arena. The device steps up to an Intel chipset and is capable of running the full range of Windows 7 and Windows 8 applications.

The Pro model will be available in 64GB or 128GB editions, each with a Surface pen for stylus input and a traditional keyboard for use as a notebook. The design shares the same 10.6-inch display size as the Surface RT, but with a 1920×1080 Full HD resolution.

In the US Surface Windows 8 Pro tablet starts at $899, in contrast to the $499 entry point for the Surface RT.

Update: Unfortunately Microsoft has announced an official February 9th launch in the US and Canada, but the company has yet confirmed if the Surface Pro will be made available at the same time in Australia.
