REVEALED: Kindle Touches OZ $185 …DOUBLE US Price

Amazon Kindle Touch is here but it’ll cost you dearly.
The WiFi Amazon Kindle Touch is being sold “exclusively” at Dick Smith stores ($185) until April.

The 6″ Kindle E Ink is equipped with a touchscreen that lets you read, buy books with touch and swipe functionality and hold up to 3,000 titles.

“Following the success of the Amazon Kindle, which was one of the biggest selling products of 2011, Dick Smith is predicting similar record sales for the Amazon Kindle Touch,” the retailer said today.

Well, not at prices like this.

Operation rip-off: Kindle prices seem far higher here in Oz.

The Kindle Touch can be bought online in Amazon US for a mere US$99, meaning once again Aussie consumers are getting screwed over on price differentiation between here and US, despite the parity of the dollar.

The device can be bought on Amazon.com site and delivered to Oz for $139.

Amazon’s touch ereader weighs in at 213 grams and has adjustable text size, audiobooks and a battery life of up to two months

The $185 version comes with WiFi and sports a silver finish.

Dick is also selling the Kindle Touch 3G version for $249 – $100 more than the asking price in US.

“More and more Australians are realising the versatility that eBook readers offer and how this kind of technology can improve their everyday lives,” says Dick Smith Business Manager, Sarah Gale.

“The anticipation we’ve seen around the arrival of the Amazon Kindle Touch shows us that people want an on-the-go gadget that lets you simply read any book, anywhere.”
