A Google survey of Aussie phone users, revealed today, shows 49% are clutching iPhones, while Google’s own Android OS smartphones accounted for just half of Apple share – at 25%.

Nokia Symbian OS came in third place with 8%, while Microsoft Windows (4%) and BlackBerry trailed with just 3%.

However, this appears to differ slightly from previous figures from analysts including IDC which showed Android accounted for 49% of all smartphones in Oz – leaving Apple trailing with 36%.

Australia’s love affair with the smartphone is continuing with a whopping 52% of us now clutching a handset – a 15% jump on a year ago.

But it seems we’re not willing to part with them in a hurry, either.

In fact, almost 25% of us would rather part with our TV set than a smartphone. Google Australia study also reveals 3 out of 4 of us don’t leave the house without our beloved smartie.

And we reckon we ‘ll be using our internet on iPhones and Android around 40% more in the future as surfing the web on the go becomes as common as muck.

And it looks like our love affair with the social networks is also continuing to gather stream with a massive 78% of those surveyed admitting they use the likes of Twitter, Facebook regularly while almost 50% say they log on every day.

Apps wise, a grand total of 27 apps have been downloaded by the sample mobile users, with 10 apps used in the last 30 days alone.

7 of the total were paid apps.

The Google survey conducted in conjunction Ipsos Media CT surveyed a with a total of 1,000 Australian online (18-64 years of age.
