Revved Up Ferrari Sound System Turns Heads

If you love Ferrari’s and are into sound systems start saving, as a US design and innovation studio has released a cool looking Ferrari-inspired stereo music system that combines twin-speaker arrays, wireless signal input and digital electronics in a self-contained tower.

Called the Art Engine the limited edition system went on display this week with news that only a 1,000 of the units are being built and they will sell for $23,000 apiece through Ferrari dealerships and custom A/V professionals.

David Wiener, DWV president and CEO of Wiener Ventures, says that the product’s every detail is influenced by “Ferrari passion and elegance,” from the racing-style NACA cooling ducts and carbon fiber baffles to the Ferrari-red finish and sonic performance.

Standing 47 inches tall, 16 inches wide and 6 inches deep, the speaker almost looks like a sculpture. The system employs a wireless signal input system that allows it to be plugged into an electrical outlet and its digital receiver technology instantly accepts music files and Web-based radio beamed from any 802.11 WiFi-enabled PC or Mac.

It also provides a hardwired input for a CD player, iPod, satellite radio, or other portable music device.

The tower houses a bi-amplified, stereo audio system with twin integrated line-source loudspeakers, amplifiers, DSP signal management, and a wireless digital receiver.

It includes, in each of its two channels, eight three-inch carbon fiber, high-performance low-to-midrange woofers, and one 1.1-inch ScanSpeak soft-dome tweeter with a Neodymium motor. All the drivers are magnetically shielded.

All 16 of the hand-assembled woofers are individually tested prior to approval. Once approved, the drivers are matched as a group to provide the truest, most consistent sound possible. The group is then mated to a pair of dome tweeters by ScanSpeak of Denmark.

Also included in the system are four 200-watt discrete digital amplifier modules. RCA jacks mounted on the side handle any wired analog inputs.
