Ricoh Roll Out World’s Fastest Camera

Ricoh’s latest compact has a new imaging engine said to be one of the fastest available at 120-frames per second.

The Ricoh CX1’s sensor may only be 9.3MP, but it more than makes up for it with raw image processing power and ISO 1600 sensitivity, claims Ricoh.

Inside the shell, the unit has the company’s Smooth Imaging Engine IV and a top notch CMOS sensor that will let you take shots at up to 120fps, says Ricoh.

Another feature of the unit is its 7.1x optical wide-angle zoom lens (28-200mm in 35mm film equivalent focal length). The CX1’s expanded dynamic range of 12 EV-equivalent makes it possible to capture high-contrast scenes in a way not possible with earlier models, claims Ricoh.

In addition, functions such as multi-pattern auto white balance (sets white balance based on the light sources of segregated areas of the image) and multi-target AF (shoots consecutive images at seven focal distances automatically defined by the camera) enables the camera to create images giving an almost naked-eye impression.

The CX1 has a 3.0-inch 920,000-dot VGA monitor and high-speed continuous shooting functions at approximately 4 frames/second.
The camera will be available in Australia in March this year.
