RIM Set To Snub OZ With New Blackberry 10 Offering

Days out from the first official showing of the new BlackBerry 10, Research in Motion (RIM) has revealed several new video and music partners in an effort to bolster sales for its new smartphone. The bad news is that the content will not be available in Australia.Among the Hollywood studios set to partner with RIM are Sony Pictures, Universal Music Group, Walt Disney Studios and the Warner Music Group.

RIM claims their media store will include a large catalogue of music, television, and movies, with most movies available the same day as the DVD release.

Other companies involved in the launch are Matador Records, Sony Music Entertainment and Rough Trade Records. Music will initially be available in 18 countries. Video downloads will initially be available in the US, UK, and Canada, and will provide ABC, BBC Worldwide, and CBS downloads. No information has been provided as to the amount of content available at launch or in the coming months.

RIM is not saying why Australia has been excluded from the content offering when other Commonwealth countries, including the UK and Canada, are included.

Update: RIM has confirmed Australia will be one of the 18 countries its music catalogue is available to, but they remain tight lipped on the local availability of its video service.
