Samsung has announced that it will be the first to sell its 3D TVs in Australia. The new Full HD 3D LED TVs will be available on 19 April 2010 starting from $2899 for a 40-inch model.

In a press briefing at the Ivy this morning, Mark Leathan, Head of Marketing, Consumer Electronics for Samsung said that 3D TV will change the way we watch content.
“The new Samsung 3D TVs create a new dimension literally for image quality and image realism. We are committed to developing technology and products that exceed today’s expectations of innovation. We are also excited to be the first company to provide 3D TV to Australia,” said Leathan.
The new line of 3D TVs from Samsung are compatible with multiple 3D standards including half and Full HD resolution and use the Blu-ray Disc Association ratified Blu-ray 3D standard. They also come with built-in Ethernet connection and wireless-ready capabilities (Wi-Fi dongle will be sold separately for $79) that allows a user to gain access to Internet@TV, an expanded, easy to navigate selection of content and applications from leading services.
Apps available in Australia include YouTube, Twitter, Skype, Accuweather, Getty Images, Picasa, History App, Sudoku and Texas Hold’em Poker. In addition, Samsung’s All Share feature allows consumers to view content on their Samsung TV from a PC, camera or mobile phone wirelessly through their network. Samsung has also announced an in principle agreement to bring the Telstra BigPond TV platform to Samsung TVs in the very near future.
The company has also announced that there will be three different models of 3D glasses: one battery type model that sells for $99 plus a rechargeable model available in two sizes (large and small) for $129. At launch, Samsung will be giving away two sets of glasses as well as a 3D Blu-ray disc of DreamWorks Animation’s Monsters vs. Aliens for a limited time. Users are advised however that a 3D Blu-ray player (available for $599) is required to play the 3D Blu-ray movie.
The total 2010 3D TV product range will include the LED Series 7, 8 and 9, as well as the Series 7 LCD and Plasma Series 7 plus 3D Blu-ray player. Prices for the TVs range from a RRP of $2,499-$4,799 with the Blu-ray player retailing at $599.
