Samsung And LG Bring An End To Washing Machine Dispute

The Samsung, LG washing machine fracas has been brought to an end, with the two companies agreeing to end all existing legal disputes. As reported by Reuters, Samsung and LG have said in a joint statement they would withdraw all complaints against each other and ask legal authorities to refrain from imposing harsh punishments in ongoing cases.

Among Samsung and LG’s disputes, it has been alleged a senior LG executive had vandalised four Samsung Crystal Blue washing machines at a retail store in Germany last year while in attendance at a trade show.

Jo Seong-jin, head of LG’s home appliance division, was subsequently indicted on charges of deliberately damaging the four machines.

LG, in turn, published video footage, which it claimed cleared Jo Seong-jin of the allegations.

The washing machine dispute was the latest in a series of run-ins between the two companies, including a spat over refrigerator capacity which resulted in legal action being taken.

As reported by Reuters, the agreement extends to Samsung subsidiary Samsung Display and to LG Display.

Samsung Display employees were indicted in February on charges of stealing OLED display panel technology from LG Display, Reuters reported, with Samsung Display stating the technology was widely known in the industry and that the indictment was excessive.

“Both sides have agreed to avoid legal action and resolve any future conflicts or disputes through dialogue and mutual agreement,” Reuters reported the companies as stating.
