Samsung Call In The Lawyers Over ACCC Claim

After representation from lawyers representing Samsung, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has agreed to change their stance over claims that a Samsung TV stand could “topple on a child” said Jesse James Communications Manager for Samsung.

“They did put up a statement earlier concerning one of our stands. We are told that a new statement is being issued after representation from lawyers representing Samsung” said James.

James also said that the company was aware of the problems involving the stand and that days before the ACCC statement was issued the company had become aware of the problem and had already started a process to “replace stands and fix the problem”.

In a statement to retailers the company said “As part of Samsung’s stringent quality control process, it has identified a short term product quality issue on a limited number of its television stands. Following these findings, Samsung contacted the ACCC to explain its course of action to remedy any issues.”

“As such, Samsung Electronics Australia is proactively contacting customers of these three 55 inch televisions that have stands that may exhibit minor cracking in the perspex. Almost half of all customers who bought the product (produced during the period April 13 to June 14 2009) have been contacted to enable their products to be checked and replaced ensuring that all components are secure.”

“Samsung is committed to product quality and safety. It undertakes ongoing tests on all of its products during their lifespan to ensure that its customers continue to enjoy their products for as long as possible.”

“Furthermore, Australian retailers stocking the affected models have been contacted to organise a replacement of the affected stands. All production of these three models made after June 14 2009 are not affected.”

“Samsung is working with retailers to identify all customers but also encourages customers of the following models to contact this toll free number  1800 016 794  1800 016 794  with any queries.”
