Samsung Galaxy S8, Woolworths Defies Carriers With Cheapest Deal

Woolworths Mobile is undercutting the competition by a significant margin, as Australian telcos release their pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Plans for the S8 from Woolworths Mobile start at just $65 a month with 4GB of included data. At a total cost of $1,560 over the 24 month contract, it’s only a few hundred dollars more than the Galaxy S8’s RRP of $1,199. Woolworths is also offering a $69 a month plan for the larger Galaxy S8+ with 4GB of data.

While Woolworths uses Telstra’s extensive 4G and 3G networks for its mobile offering, it is currently unable to offer take advantage of 4GX, which Telstra claims offers speeds “up to 50 per cent faster” than the next fastest smartphone.

For that you will need to sign up directly with Telstra, whose plans start at $80 a month for the S8 and $87 a month for the S8+, but with just 1GB of data. A more reasonable offer is the telco’s $95 a month S8 plan with 12GB of data.

Optus’s cheapest plans are $82 a month for the S8 and $87 a month for the S8+, but like Telstra they include just 1GB of data. Customers are encouraged to sign up for a $94 a month S8 plan, which offers ‘bonus data’ for a total of 8GB. But on a dollar per gigabyte basis, Optus beats out the competition with its $160 a month plan ($3840/24 months) packing 100GB of data, with the option of either the S8 or S8+.

Virgin’s prices start at $70 a month for the S8 and $75 a month for the S8+, but with just 500MB of included data, you’ll be looking to upgrade to one of their more expensive plans.

Vodafone rounds out the major telcos, with its cheapest $77 a month S8 and $83 a month S8+ plans, both including 1GB of data.

All of the plans mentioned above except Virgin and Telstra’s cheapest offerings include unlimited calls and texts, but international calls and other benefits may differ, so be sure to read about each plan in more detail before signing up.
