Samsung Introduces Thin And Light Galaxy Tab S2

Samsung has today unveiled its Galaxy Tab S2, its “thinnest and lightest tablet of its size ever”, which will be available in 9.7″ and 8″ models. The S2, which weighs in at 389 g for the 9.7″ model and 265 g for the 8″ model (for the Wi-Fi-only versions, with the LTE versions weighing in slightly heavier) and which is 5.6 mm thin, is decked out with a 2048 x 1536 QXGA Super AMOLED display, which Samsung states is “perfectly optimised for reading and viewing any type of digital content”.

Samsung states that it has sought to recreate the same viewing experience of browsing through traditional print media, with the Super AMOLED display delivering “deeper contrast and more p

recise detail to provide a best-in-class reading experience”.

Features such as Adaptive Display adjust gamma, saturation and sharpness based on the application, the colour temperature of the viewing environment and ambient lighting, while Reading Mode modifies the screen’s brightness level, helping users read for longer periods of time without straining their eyes.

Under the hood, the S2, which runs Android 5.0 Lollipop, is powered by a quad 1.9 GHz + quad 1.3 GHz octa-core processor, is equipped with 3 GB RAM, comes with either 32 or 64 GB internal memory, and features a microSD slot for up to 128 GB memory, while it sports a 8 MP autofocus rear camera and 2.1 MP front camera.

The 9.7″ model is equipped with a 5,870 mAh battery and the 8″ model a 4,000 mAh battery.

The S2 is additionally built with a touch-enabled fingerprint scanner, with Samsung stating that a built-in advanced security sensor “offers easy access to the personal device with a simple press against the home key”.

“The Galaxy Tab S2 is not only our thinnest and lightest tablet of its size ever, it also gives users quick, easy access to a wealth of superior viewing and productivity features,” JK Shin, Samsung Electronics CEO and president of IT & Mobile Division, commented.

“We believe the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the most complete personal visual device designed for consumers to carry and use anywhere.”

Samsung states the S2 will be available in global markets starting from August.
