Samsung has launched their first Windows Phone 8 smartphone in the US with speculation that Telstra could launch a version of the new smartphone shortly.Samsung’s 4G LTE-Windows phone which is called the Ativ Odyssey in the USA features 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display (800 by 480), 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and Full HD 1080p recording, and a front-facing 1.2-megapixel camera for video chats.

It also has Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, 8GB onboard storage, slot for 64GB MicroSD card and 2,100 mAh battery. A photo editor app lets users crop, rotate, and resize pictures; adjust contrast, RGB and hue; and add effects for sharing on Facebook, Picasa and Photobucket.
Users can back up and store information in the free Cloud service SkyDrive.
The phone’s global-ready capability provides voice and data service in more than 220 countries via quad-band GSM/EDGE and 3G HSPA/UMTS in the 2.1GHz band.
It will compete up against the HTC Windows Phone 8X and the Nokia Lumia 822.
The device is selling in the US for $49.95 on a two year verizon contract.
