According to the head of worldwide sales and marketing for PCs Kyu Uhm, the Samsung OLED notebook will be launched mid 2010. Currently Samsung is the world’s largest manufacturer of OLED screens.
Earlier this year Sony who were banking on OLED TV’s and notebooks to give them a competitive edge admitted that they were struggling with a high manufacturing failure rate.
Samsung European product manager Patrick Povel, told Electronista, that OLED-based notebooks will be the industry standard by 2014, citing numerous Gartner reports.
OLED is coming into favour because of how thin screens can be made with them, lower power consumption and much better colour palettes as well as higher contrast ratios. OLED is currently used in MP3 players and other smaller devices, but has yet to hit mainstream in HDTVs due to high costs.
