Samsung Pay Set For Oz Launch Next Week

Samsung is set to launch Samsung Pay in Australia next week, having today sent out invitations to a launch event.Samsung has locked in June 15 for the launch, which will take place in Sydney.

Samsung initially launched Samsung Pay towards the end of last year, with the service launching in South Korea, with Samsung having since brought Samsung Pay to a number of locations around the world.

Samsung Pay is available on devices including Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, S6 edge+ and S6 active, and Galaxy Note 5 flagship smartphones.

It employs three different levels for payment security: fingerprint identification, tokenisation to encrypt card credentials, and Samsung’s Knox mobile security platform, with users swiping their finger up the screen on a compatible smartphone, scanning their fingerprint and paying.

It can be used where purchases can be made using a contactless credit or debit card.

Competition in the mobile payments sector is heating up, with the launch seeing Samsung join the likes of rival Apple in the local market.

Apple Pay arrived in the Australian market last year, becoming available for American Express card holders, while in April this year, ANZ became the first major Australian bank to offer Apple Pay.
