Samsung has launched its first 5 megapixel camera phone to cater for the growing number of consumers purchasing phones with cameras that offer two megapixels or more, which accordingly makes up for 8 per cent of phone sales and growing, according to AMTA.

“Growth in the 2+ Megapixel camera phone space is tremendous and accounted for 8% of phones sold in Australia last year. Samsung have performed exceptionally well, increasing our sales of 2+ Megapixel camera phones by 14 times,” said Samsung Mobile head of marketing, Jenny Goodridge, in a press statement.
“Samsung has a proud history in this space having launched the world’s first 5, 8 and 10 Megapixel camera phones. We are thrilled to bring our award nominated Samsung G600 camera phone to Australia – we are confident its 5 Megapixel power in a slim and compact design will be a winner,” she said.
Samsung says its new 5 megapixel offering meets consumer demand for high-quality camera performance in a slim unit.
The camera teams Samsung’s High Sensitive Shot and Rapid Focus features. High Sensitive Shot is an image stabiliser that reportedly compensates for shaky hands and minimises blur in low light conditions, while the Rapid Focus feature combines faster shutter speeds with auto focus to deliver sharper images, says Samsung.
The new Samsung G600 will be available from March, with prices to be confirmed.
