Samsung Says Secret Notebook Keystroke Claims Not True

BREAKING NEWS: Samsung has said that reports in an IDG publication that they are using keylogger software to record the keystrokes of users is “not true”.

In a statement issued late this afternoon, Samsung Australia said that the issue had been investigated by the Samsung Corporation and that their findings indicate that, Mohamed Hassan, the founder of NetSec Consulting a firm that specialises in information security consulting services used a security program called VIPRE that mistook a folder created by Microsoft Live Application for a key logging software, during a virus scan.

De Willebois Consulting claims on their website, that StarLogger ” the software that Mohamed Hassan claims that he found on a Samsung Samsung R525 is completely undetectable and starts up whenever your computer starts up. They claim that the software sees everything being typed: emails, messages, documents, web pages, usernames, passwords, and more.” The software can also capture screen images, the website says.

What is not known is how Hassan who claims to be a security consult was not able to distinguish the difference between keystroke software and Microsoft OS software.

More to follow.
