Samsung To Launch New 7″ 4G Galaxy Tab With Android 4.0

Samsung Australia is set to launch a brand new 343 gram 4G, 7.2″ Galaxy Tab with Android 4.0. The device is thicker than the recently launched Toshiba 10.1″ AT 200 tablet. The new tablet will be available with Wi-Fi-only. There will also be a 4G SIM version which Telstra is believed to be already testing.

The new model will be available with 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB of embedded memory and feature a microSD slot supporting 32GB cards. It also has a dual-core 1GHz processor, a front-facing video-chat VGA camera and the rear camera goes to 3 megapixels from 3.2. The new model also features Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ instead of a/b/g/n.

Another upgrade is the inclusion of full-1080p HD video capture instead of 720p.

Samsung has also set the device up to work with their Smart TV with the Company pushing the Tab as an All Share Play device complete with DLNA networking to AllShare Play devices.

AllShare Play enables streaming of smartphone content to other networked DLNA devices, but the new version lets users stream multimedia content to the tablet from PCs, other Samsung smartphones, and third-party cloud services. It also enables device-to-device and device-to-cloud transfers. The tablet also remotely accesses files stored on a home PC even if the tablet is not on the home network.

The new tablet will have a 7-inch WSVGA (1024×600) PLS TFT display, Wi-Fi Direct, USB 2.0 Host, GPS, and Samsung Kies Air, which enables a Wi-Fi connection to a PC or Mac without a preloaded PC software to synchronise phone content, view and manage content such as contacts from the PC, and send SMS messages from the PC.

The included lithium-ion battery is 4,000mAh.

Other features in the new model includes Bluetooth 3.0, multi-party video calls via Google+ hangouts, and Samsung’s ChatON cross-platform video-chat service, which connects phones of any platform. ChatON uses phone numbers instead of IDs and passwords to provide instant messaging and group chatting with voice and video, the company said.

In the new tablet, Android 4.0’s Face Unlock feature unlocks the device via facial recognition software. Like before, the tablet offers Samsung’s Music Hub to download more than 17 million tracks and Samsung Readers Hub to access more than 2.3 million e-books, 3,500 magazines and more than 2,000 newspapers in 51 languages. Samsung’s Game Hub will connect users to game titles, and its Video Hub offers more than 1,000 film titles for purchase or rent.

The new model also features Samsung’s upgraded Touchwiz user interface, which features widgets for one-step access to users’ content. The device also offers S Suggest, a new service offering home-screen recommendations of apps suited to users’ tastes.
