Samsung Wearable ‘WatchPhone’ Coming?

Its the phone, you wear. Samsung is working on a Watch Phone, reports say.The wearable phone would have the technology of a smartphone and watch, but will be worn on the wrist only.

The ‘watch phone’ would not need to be paired to a smartphone via Bluetooth, as per the current generation of Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watches. It will also be able to make calls, write emails and messages, reports Wall Street Journal, citing sources.
A voice activation feature could be incorporated to achieve this, considering the small size of watch screens.
Watch Phone is also reported to have a fitness function with a heart rate monitor, as health is a popular function of wearable tech devices, which spans headphones, smart bands and soon glasses like Google Glass.
It is said to be released in July and is tipped to run on Samsung Tizen OS. Samsung have not officially confirmed the existence of any such device.
Samsung currently sells several Galaxy Gear smart watches and bands, which have to be linked to a smartphone.
The Korean giant is certainly on the right track when it comes to wearables.
New figures show the Galaxy Gear maker now has 70% of the smart watch market, racing ahead of rivals like Jawbone, Pebble and Sony.
Galaxy Gear watches which includes Gear 2, Fit and Neo, are outperforming all major rivals, says analysts Strategy Analytics. This is likely due to the super strong brand Samsung has, as the world’s largest phone maker.
Wearable tech is big news right now although the market appears to be dominated by smart watches. Global smartwatch shipments grew a healthy 250% in Q1 2014 compared to the same time 2013, although from a pretty small base.
The market was driven heavily by Android shipped a record 1.2 million smartwatches worldwide or 61 percent of all smart watches, last year.
