Samsung are on a Galaxy high as they report stellar sales for Q4.

Samsung’s net profit was 4 trillion won or US $3.6 billion – a rise of 17% compared to a year ago.
This major profit jump is on the back of 300m phone sales in total, 32m of which was through smartphones, compared to Apple’s 37m sales.
The Galaxy maker does not release a breakdown for basic mobile and smartphone sales.
Total sales at the largest electronics company in the world, who make everything from fridges to LCDs and phones rose 13% to to 47.3 trillion won.
Operating profit was 5.3 trillion won, slightly above estimates of 5.2 trillion won.
Handset demand increased 10% due to “strong seasonality” referring to the crucial Christmas sales period which saw sales of flagship Galaxy S II and mass market Ace and Y.
Smartphones led mobile growth, Samsung confirmed in an earnings presentation today, and its bulging phone division accounted for half of their sales of $21 billion and 40% of profits.
Shipments of the S II, the new Nexus and Note increased a massive 30%, especially in developed markets and is also one of the best selling phones here in Australia.
“Revenue and shipments grew substantially led by enhanced market leadership in high end smartphones”, according to a Samsung presentation seen by the Android Community.
On the TV end, Samsung’s display business was not so high flying, recording an operating loss of 220 billion won for Q4 – a dramatic fall from last year profit of 100bn won.
However, demand was up “significantly” – around 20% with LCD also showing strong growth in the 40% bracket , according to Samsung.
The Korean giant also expanded sales of LED TVs including D7/8000. Shipments of LCD TV were also up 50% as were LEDs +60% and demand increased in developed markets and emerging markets.
