Secret Low Cost Toshiba ANT Tablet With Honeycomb Revealed

Toshiba Australia, who has deliberately avoided launching their much talked about Folio tablet PC, is believed to be considering the launch of a new sub $500, 10.1 inch, Honeycomb tablet, that will be called ANT.

A version of the new tablet is already in Australia. It will be available in six colours due to the introduction of a unique cover system.

The display will deliver 1280×800 resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio along with the ability to upscale content on the fly from 720p to 1080p

Several versions of the ANT will be sold ranging in price from sub $500 to over $620 for a top end model that will come with expanded storage up to 32GB.
All models will have a 2-megapixel front and a 5-megapixel rear camera.

A briefing note for retailers positions the device as superior to the iPad 2 because it includes hardware features such as a USB, mini-USB, HDMI, and an SD card slot.
Toshiba claim that they have superior sound performance including stereo sound that is enhanced by SRS Labs surround sound enhancements.

Another key feature that Toshiba claims sets their device apart from the iPad2 is the introduction of user-replaceable battery as well as a physical screen-orientation lock.
