We reported last week that the classic Sega game characters Mario and Sonic will be reuniting in a new game designed for the Nintendo Wii and DS platforms. Now we have more details on the game from Sega.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is published by Sega across Europe and North America, and published by Nintendo in the Japanese market. The game is licensed through a worldwide partnership with International Sports Multimedia (ISM), the exclusive interactive entertainment software licensee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The game features new interactive features, and includes 20 authentic Olympic events. Using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck system, you can compete in the games using one of the 16 characters – eight from the world of Mario and eight from the world of Sonic. The Wii controls are created to replicate the actions that offer the best results for each event, the company says.
The games include: Fencing, Archery, Shooting, Gymnastics, High Jump, Pole Vault, Long Jump, Javelin, Rowing, Table Tennis, Aquatics, Rowing, Track, Aquatics and more.
The interactive Wii controls include actions like swinging the Wii Remote to simulate hammer throw or replicating swimming strokes.
There are four playing styles to choose from depending on which character you choose to play as. For example, Mario and Amy are all-round good players while Sonic and Yoshi are good at speed.
You can play single and multiplayer mode in a circuit or a mission. There is also Olympic Games trivia, quizzes and mini games included.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games will be in-stores across Australia on November 22nd, 2007 for Wii, and Q1 2008 for the Nintendo DS.
