Set Top Boxes A Waste Of Time. Analyst.

Telecommunications analyst Paul Budde has said that if consumers are thinking about buying a digital set-top box for their living room TV? That they should forget it. He says it very likely prove to be a waste of money.

According to Budde, digital video delivered by the Internet is a much better bet than the Government’s plans for digital telly, announced by Comms and It Minister Helen Coonan this week. “You should not buy a digital set box because digital will become available via broadband and give users much better choice and service than if you wait for the Government service in five years time – whereas broadband is coming by the end the year,” he declared.

The sage of Bucketty is not much impressed by Coonan’s vision of delivering specialised digital telly channels to mobile phones, either. “It’s not an really an option … the mobile is a phone and not really a device for TV,” he said. ” It is not user-friendly and the cost would be prohibitive.
