Sony Movies Leaked Online Following Hacking

The fallout continues from the Sony Pictures Entertainment hacking, with the Los Angeles Times reporting the computer systems remain down, while pirated copies of Sony movies have begun to appear online on file sharing websites.Among the movies leaked online are the World War II film “Fury”, starring Brad Pitt, the musical remake “Annie”, “Still Alice”, “Mr. Turner” and “To Write Love on Her Arms”, although it has not been confirmed if this is directly related to the hacking, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“The theft of Sony Pictures Entertainment content is a criminal matter, and we are working closely with law enforcement to address it,” the Los Angeles Times reported Sony as stating.

Sony Pictures last Monday suffered the security breach, forcing its computer systems down.

Employees who tried to log on to their work computers were greeted with an image of a red skeleton on the screen under “Hacked By #GOP”, reportedly short for “Guardians of Peace”, along with a list of threats, the Los Angeles Times originally reported, with the system then going down.

Meanwhile, tech news site Re/code has reported sources familiar with the matter as stating Sony is looking into the possibility the hackers were working on behalf of North Korea, with the timing of the attack coinciding with the upcoming release of “The Interview”, a Sony film depicting a CIA plot to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Re/code stated its sources stress that a link to North Korea hasn’t been confirmed, but has also not been ruled out.
