Sony OZ Cuts Back TV Range As Consumers Desert Brand

Desperate to be taken as a serious player in the TV market Sony has moved to show off a new Australian TV line-up after spending the last quarter discounting its TV stock. The 2012 Sony television range is light on in features when compared to what Samsung and LG is set to launch, a move noted by retailers who are now cutting back on stocking Sony products as consumers move to models from the two Korean TV giants.

Globally Sony has said they are cutting back on their TV business after eight straight years of losses. In Australia the range has been cut to nine models. Unlike LG and Samsung, Sony Australia did not hold a major event for their 2012 TV line-up, due in part to the Company struggling to deliver similar features such as dual core processors to what LG and Samsung are now offering consumers in their Smart TV range.

The Sony Bravia KDL-55HX925 will soon offer access to the Ten Networks online catch-up TV service. It is expected to cost $3599.

The new Australian Bravia TV range is available in 46 and 55-inch screen sizes. Its flagship Bravia HX850 model is due in Australian stores in May, offering built-in Wi-Fi , Internet TV, and access to online content and apps in addition to conventional free-to-air and cable TV services.

Pricing for the HX850 is yet to be announced.

At Robina Shopping Centre in Queensland the Company is selling the HX750, for $3299, $2699, $1799 and $1099 for 55-, 46-, 40- and 32-inch models respectively. Sony also launched a new range of lightweight 3D glasses.
