Sony PSN Network Taken Down Again

Sony executives fear that the sheer volume of gamers trying to get back onto their Playstation and Entertainment network could bring it down again. There is also fears that hackers are trying to take the Playstation network down again just to prove a point.

Sony executives fear that the sheer volume of gamers trying to get back onto their Playstation and Entertainment network could bring it down again. There is also fears that hackers are trying to take the Playstation network down again just to prove a point.

Overnight the Japanese Company who has been stopped from restarting their network in Japan because of security fears was forced to close down the network in an effort to relieve the pressure on the Sony PS Network.

The recently restored service had to be taken down because of the sheer number of users trying to change their passwords the Company said.
Limited service has now been restored in most countries, including Australia.

A problem for some users who contacted SmartHouse yesterday was the time delay between resetting their email and getting an email confirmation.
In some cases this was taking up to an hour.

Sony said that the email messages were taking time to reach some players, because the high number of resets meant that millions of e-mails were flying around the internet.

The delay was caused by internet service providers (ISPs) “throttling the e-mails” said the message.

Further problems were caused by the huge number of users trying to log on at the same time.

Initially, the only services back online are online gaming, chat and music streaming. Users are still not able to use credit cards to buy games or other content.

Despite Sony being a Japanese Company the Japanese government isn’t giving the PlayStation people permission to boot servers back up because they still have concerns about what exactly Sony has done to bolster security.

According to several reports a government official says they need more information on the measures that Sony’s taken to administer secure services.

Japanese Government officials say that meetings on May 6th and 13th failed to meet the divulgement requirements Sony needs to proceed:

“We met with Sony on May 6 and 13, and basically we want two things from them,” Kazushige Nobutani, director of the Media and Content Industry department at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, told Dow Jones Newswires.

He listed two areas where it requires further explanation before approval will be given following the incidents regarding its PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment videogame services.

“The first is preventative measures. As of May 13, Sony was incomplete in exercising measures that they said they will do on the May 1 press conference,” he said, adding that he could not provide details on the outstanding issues for security reasons.
