Sony has introduced a new high-end addition to its popular 1000X headphone lineup, marking a more design-focused direction for the company’s flagship noise-cancelling range.
Called 1000X THE COLLEXION, the new headphones celebrate the 10-year evolution of Sony’s 1000X series, which first launched in 2016 and quickly became one of the most recognised premium headphone families on the market.
Unlike previous models that focused primarily on sound and noise cancellation, the latest release places heavier emphasis on materials, comfort and luxury styling. The headphones feature metal construction with sandblasted and polished finishes, soft faux leather developed over two years and a cleaner handle-free design approach with integrated buttons and microphone openings.
Available in Platinum and Black finishes, the headphones are designed for extended wear with larger earcups and a wider cushioned headband intended to distribute weight more evenly during long listening sessions.

Sony says the model introduces a newly developed driver system using carbon composite materials to improve vocal clarity, instrument separation and soundstage depth. The company also worked with several Grammy-winning and Grammy-nominated mastering engineers to refine the audio tuning.
The headphones become the first Sony model to include DSEE Ultimate technology, which uses AI processing to upscale compressed music files in real time.
Spatial audio also receives an upgrade through expanded 360 Reality Audio Upmix modes designed for music, gaming and cinema content.
Despite the luxury positioning, the headphones still retain core 1000X features including active noise cancellation, adaptive sound processing, voice calling support and up to 24 hours of battery life.
Sony has also added a new Sandstone colour option to its WH-1000XM6 headphones, expanding the existing lineup with a softer neutral finish.
The company says sustainability and accessibility played a role in the product design, with recycled plastics used in construction and plastic-free packaging introduced to reduce environmental impact. Accessibility features include tactile controls, magnetic case closures and clearer left and right markings.
1000X THE COLLEXION is available in Australia now with pricing set at $999.95, while the WH-1000XM6 Sandstone edition is priced at $699.95.
