Sony’s Svelte Tablet Z Is The World’s Thinnest + Lightest

After launching the breath-snatching Xperia Z smartphone at the 2013 CES show, Sony has showcased its complementing tablet, to which we’ve been Ohhing and Aahhhing over.Sony’s Tablet Z conforms to stringent design principles and it looks astounding for it. There are no arched spines, no folding corners and no tom-foolery whatsoever.

The first ‘Ooohh’ is derived from its svelte profile. At 6.9mm thin, the Tablet Z is the thinnest 10.1 inch tablet in the world. Better yet, its 495 gram physique is the lightest of any tablet in its category. Formerly Toshiba’s AT200 held the ‘thinnest and lightest’ title weighing in at 558 grams and 7.7mm thin.

Despite the blade-like profile the Tablet Z’s innards aren’t anaemic. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s 1.5GHz quad-core processor, features 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory and offers expandable MicroSD memory. The 10.1 inch 1,920-by-1,200 screen benefits from Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine 2, while the 8.1MP camera uses Sony’s Exmor R technology.

Near Fields Communication (NFC) and 4G LTE technology imbue the Tablet Z with the makings of a connected persona; however, Sony hasn’t revealed its full connectivity repertoire.

Finally, this Android 4.1 tablet will be resistant to water and dust. Apart from unveiling the tablet (in the unusual hiatus between CES and the Mobile World Congress), Sony hasn’t revealed its local pricing or availability.
