Stereolabs have unveiled their answer to Microsoft’s expensive but compelling Hololens mixed-reality tech.Called the Linq, it’s a headset that uses high definition ZED 3D
stereo cameras to understand” the environment it’s being used in and
recognize both people and objects up to 20 meters away from the users.
The key difference between what’s on offer here and Hololens is that
the Linq offers a wider field of view, works in outdoor environments and
doesn’t require users to map out a room before use.
Stereolabs are also looking to undercut Microsoft on price. They told
Engadget that it’ll likely come to market for around the same price as a
dedicated gaming console.
Stereolabs will make Linq available to developers in early 2017 with plans to debut a consumer model later in the year.
