T-Box Here For Now: Yahoo7 And Telstra Team Up

Telstra’s T-Box is sticking around, at least for the time being, with Yahoo7 and Telstra teaming up to deliver PLUS7 premium video content to T-Box customers. The partnership agreement will see PLUS7 available directly via Telstra’s T-Box Catch Up TV menu, encompassing on demand content from Channel 7, with audiences able to access programs including The X Factor, Home & Away, and Winners and Losers.

Telstra CEO David Thodey had previously confirmed the T-Box featured in the telco’s future plans amid speculation it would be given the chop.

The expansion of the T-Box’s content offerings comes as competition intensifies in the Australian digital media market, with US heavy hitter Netflix expected to launch locally in 2015.

In August, Nine Entertainment Co and Fairfax Media announced the formation of a joint venture to launch an Australian subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service, StreamCo, stating it is expected to launch during the 2015 financial year.

“The arrival of PLUS7 on the T-Box is part of Telstra’s ongoing plans to bring more free-to-air content to our T-Box customers,” Telstra director IPTV and pay TV Eric Kearley stated.

“Our partnership with Yahoo7 means T-Box users can watch some of their favourite Channel 7 and 7mate shows when they want, giving extra flexibility and convenience for times when it’s not possible to watch them live.”
