If Samsung are not going to make money from their (now) illegal Tab they sure as hell are going to make money from their hot new phones. Announcing its No.1 status in Oz just hours after it lost its ugly tablet legal battle against rivals Apple.

Just hours after a Sydney court ruled Samsung’s famed Galaxy Tab 10.1 is banned from sale here for potentially infringing Apple patents, Samsung have come out with all guns blazing, boldly announcing it “today became Australia’s leading smartphone and overall mobile phone manufacturer by unit sales, according to GfK data.”
Australians are “falling in love with …Samsung’s innovative range of phones,” the South Koreans declared.
The new data from GfK relates to sales for the month of August, saw the Galaxy maker “ousting rivals for the first time since data tracking began in 2007.” (Ouch, Apple).

Samsung flagship 4.3″ Galaxy S II launched here in April and is hailed at the top Android handset on the market with a dual core processor. SmartHouse gave it 4.5 star rating in its review.
The proclamation also comes ahead of Apple launching its iPhone 4S, announced just last week and released in Australia tomorrow, where queues are already gathering outside Apple Store on 367 George Street.
In a timely statement, Samsung are looking to prevent Apple from gaining any extra glory, if it can help it and also just reminded consumers it is celebrating “10 million global sales of flagship Android device – the Samsung GALAXY S II,” figures which were announced last month.
The S II sold 3.6m in its native South Korea and is to be released this week in the US. Apple sold over 20 million iPhones in its most recent quarter results.
“More Australians than ever before are switching to the Samsung GALAXY S II, a smartphone with a stylish design, user friendly functionality and fast performance,”Tyler McGee, Samsung VP of Telecommunications, declared.
And Sammy are also looking to lure Apple followers away from iPhone 4S queues and down to its pop-up shop in downtown Sydney CBD, co-incidentially just doors away from Apple’s Store, to “experience” the S II for themselves.
“Come down to the GALAXY S II pop-up-store this week to experience the GALAXY S II. The store is located at 379-381 George St, Sydney and is open daily until 6pm 16 October. “
The pop up store, which closes on Sunday, is in town to promote its new $9.99 per month Music Hub service in Australia, well apparently anyway, although it seems to have developed into a promo store for the brand.
And the Koreans are still “confident” in their ongoing battle with Apple, which is being heard in ten courts worldwide, despite their Tab 10.1 loss today:
“This is a part of our ongoing legal proceeding against Apple’s claim. Samsung is also confident it can prove Apple’s violation of Samsung’s wireless technology patents through a cross claim filed on September 16, 2011 with the Federal Court of Australia, New South Wales.
“Our wireless standard patents are essential for mobile business. We will continue to legally assert our intellectual property rights against those who violate Samsung’s patents and free ride on our technology.
