Telstra and Optus have both announced plans to launch the BlackBerry 7130g handset in Australia at the end of June – and it looks like a mobile phone.
While previous BlackBerry handsets often resembled a PDA, the 7130g is much closer in appearance to a mobile phone. Rather than the traditional QWERTY keyboard, the device merges a typical mobile keypad with the QWERTY design to allow for a narrower design.
BlackBerry is a wireless technology that offers email, mobile phone, SMS, organiser, contacts and a Web browser in one handset. The launch of the new phone accompanies an upgrade of the Blackberry Internet Service, which allows users access to up to 10 personal or corporate email accounts on the one device. The service has been enhanced to enable quicker adding of email accounts and to allow unique ‘sent from’ addresses, auto-signatures, filters and friendly names.
Both providers anticipate that the new phone will also offer BlackBerry users a faster experience when browsing the Web or using the mobile applications. The 7130g features an Intel processor with 64MB of flash memory and a high-resolution colour LCD screen with intelligent light-sensing technology to allow viewing in all environments.
The handset will also include key features such as smart dialing, conference calling, speed dial, call forwarding, speakerphone and Bluetooth support for wireless headsets and kits.
