Toshiba who yesterday revealed new wireless enabled premium TVs in Australia along with a a range of “value” models that are DLNA certified is tipped to introduce a new Google TV at the 2011 CES show in Las Vegas.Rob Wilkinson, the General Manger of Toshiba’s Information Systems Division in Australia said that Toshiba was in an excellent position to deliver a new generation of IPTV enabled TVs due to their knowledge of both the PC and TV industries.
It’s tipped that Toshiba will unveil their new Google TV at a press event on the day before CES kicks off in January 2011.
Currently Sony is the only TV manufacturer to have delivered a Google TV which uses the Android OS to deliver content to a display screen.
In a demonstration yesterday, Toshiba Australia used an Android based Smartphone to move content over a wireless network from one TV to another. They were also able to demonstrate YouTube video streaming across multiple TVs using their new Resolution Plus technology which up-scales YouTube type videos to HD quality.
A new image is then down scaled to see the differences between the new image and the original SD image with differences between the two images detected and removed. This process for up-scaling and downscaling occurs 3 times.
Some TV companies are believed to have put on hold their plans to launch a Google TV after US TV networks stopped Google getting access to their programs.
The support of Toshiba would give a boost to Google who is counting on the product to parlay its dominance in online search advertising into a foothold in broadcast advertising.
In a statement issued yesterday Google said: “Our long-term goal is to collaborate with a broad community of consumer electronics manufacturers to help drive the next generation, TV-watching experience.”
