TPG Falsely Advertising Says ACCC

UPDATED: TPG has been falsely advertising its ADSL2+ deals, alleges the Australia Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).TPG’s widespread advertising campaign for its $29.99 unlimited ADSL2+ broadband plan is considered false and misleading by the ACCC because it does not adequately disclose all the charges that come with the broadband, including the set up fee and the home phone deposit.

Users of the service must also purchase a landline rental to purchase the ADSL2+ services, pushing the minimum monthly charge up to a minimum of $59.99 rather than $29.99.

The ACCC will begin court proceedings on December 22 and seeks declarations through the courts that TPG contravened the Trade Practices Act 1974 along with penalties and corrective advertising by the telecom company.

TPG launched its campaign for its unlimited ADSL2+ plan around September this year and has since increased its broadband subscriber base by 28,000 to hit 507,000 users, while home phone subscribers have jumped from 35,000 in July to 59,000 as of November.
