Ultrabook Manufacturers Acer & Asus Drop Shipment Targets

Ultrabook manufacturers Acer and Asustek have dropped their expected unit shipments because of relatively high prices, according to Digitimes sources in the Taiwanese channel.
The two computer manufacturers have allegedly been yet to ramp up orders due to unclear market demand for the Intel-powered, thin notebooks.

The original targets of somewhere between 200,000 and 300,000 units are said to have been dropped to 100,000 by the end of 2011.

On the upside, these same un-named sources tip ultrabooks to make up 10 percent of the whole notebook market when the new generation of Intel Ivy Bridge processors hit vendors in March 2012. This slice is forecast to grow to up to 30 percent on the back of the Windows 8 operating system closer to the end of 2012.

These market observers based their expectations on demand in the Taiwanese market, while the Australian market is set to see major retailers like Dick Smith Electronics and JB Hi Fi cranking out ultrabooks by Christmas from the likes of Toshiba, Acer and HP.
