Students who enrol at the University of Wester Sydney in 2013 will receive an Apple iPad.
The University of Western Sydney is embracing digital learning by distributing 11,000 Apple iPads to its 2013 students and staff.
“This initiative will not only readily equip our students and academic staff with mobile tools to enhance learning; it will also help them to engage with an ever-increasing online world,” UWS vice-chancellor professor Kerri-Lee Krause said in a statement.
Professor Krause believes innovations such as tablets will play a key part in education by offering students flexible study options.
“Over the next couple of years UWS will challenge some of the traditional lecture-style presentations by including more of the interactive learning that students value so much,” she said in an interview with the Australian.
“Mobile technologies will be a key part of this strategy. We want to support our academic staff to make the most of iPads and custom-designed apps in class so that, even in the largest lecture theatre, students have access to just-for-me, just-in-time interactive learning experiences.”
Students who pick up an Apple iPad will be able to access UWS’ free WiFi on any one of their six campuses.
Students will be able to collect their 16GB Apple iPad from UWS’ Parramatta campus on the 16th of January.
