Vine, the 6 second looping video app acquired by Twitter, has unlocked new camera capabilities including importing of existing videos and new editing tools that promise ‘total creative freedom’.
Vine has unlocked new camera features in its popular app that takes 6 second videos which have been likened to ‘video Tweets’, especially after having been acquired by Twitter in October 2012.
The news comes from
Vine’s official blog, which says Vine’s new camera lets you shoot, import, edit and share – fast.
New features include powerful new ways to edit your videos, as well as finally being able to import existing videos on your phone for trimming down to that magic 6 second mark.

This import option can be found on Vine’s capture screen, which normally lets you record Vines using your iPhone or Android’s front or back facing cameras.
Tap the new import video button, and not only can you select one video, but you can mix together several, including slow-motion videos.
The Company says this makes it easy to “get your Vine just the way you want it”, giving you the power to “edit your Vines faster and with more precision”.
The scissors icon from the preview screen lets you edit your Vine, while new tools such as the duplicate button and mute button are also available.
A great new tool is the preview and undo button, which, with one tap, lets you “preview your last clip right from the capture screen, and if you don’t want to use it, you just tap the same button again to undo it.”
The capture screen also has a “wrench” icon, which we call a “spanner” here in Australia, which lets you “access a second layer of camera tools: grid, plus a new level; the focus lock, which now works with the front-facing camera in addition to the rear-facing camera; ghost mode, which shows you the last frame of your previous shot (and is super helpful for lining up shots!); and a new torch feature, so you can now shoot in low-light settings.”

The updated new Vine app for iOS is free to download and is available now.
A new version with the same features on Android isn’t ready yet but is promised to arrive soon.
There’s no word yet on when the Windows Phone version of the Vine app will be updated.
