Vodafone has defended its customer information privacy in lieu of an investigation into a security breach that put phone and billing records on a publicly accessible website.
“Customer information is stored on Vodafone’s internal systems and accessed via a secure web portal, accessible to authorised employees and dealers via a secure login and password,” said Vodafone’s Director of Customer Service and Experience, Cormac Hodgkinson on Vodafone’s blog.
Vodafone’s customer database (including sensitive, private customer information) is located on the internet rather than a secure company intranet system and as such anyone who gains access to log in details has access to customer details.
Vodafone is also facing a class action lawsuit on behalf of thousands of disgruntled customers over a lapse in service quality over the last few months.
Half of all Australians have suffered ISP and telecom problems over the last year according to the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN).
