Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, Vodafone’s General Manager for Devices and Pricing, Ross Parker said that the new Desire HD will give users a simple and amazing experience.

“Android provides a massive opportunity to enhance the experience for users in Australia and we are happy to bring this handset to our customers. We expect the Desire HD to be one of the hottest Android devices this Christmas,” said Parker.

The Desire HD comes with a 1 Ghz Qualcomm 8255 Snapdragon processor, runs on Google Android 2.2 (Froyo), has 1.5GB of internal storage, and has a 4.3-inch WVGA touchscreen. Other hardware features include an 8-megapixel camera with HD (720p) recording, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), and a 3.5mm jack.

In addition, the Desire HD comes with maps built-in, delivering on-demand mapping without download delays. It also comes with an e-book reader powered by Kobo.

Finally, HTC is also offering a service called HTCSense.com on the Desire HD that allows a user to remotely lock or erase a handset, let it ring even if the handset is on silent, read SMS and messages, and even change contact remotely. It also comes with HTC Hub that is able to show users the latest and greatest Android applications.

HTC’s Sales and Marketing Director for ANZ, Anthony Petts said, “The HTC Desire is perfect for those who want a great multimedia and web experience, interacting, connecting and sharing with friends.”

HTC Desire HD will be available for $0 upfront on Vodafone’s $59 promo offer over 24 months (min total cost $1416).  The device will be available through Vodafone from early November and launch dates to follow soon on 3 mobile. It will not be available for purchase outright, so users would have to sign up for a plan or buy it elsewhere.
