What Is Samsung Doing With BluRay?

Samsung has denied that it is planning a Blu-Ray / HD-DVD combination player, despite reports to the contrary.Samsung has denied that it is planning a Blu-Ray / HD-DVD combination player, despite reports to the contrary.

We clamed last week that Samsung’s home platform spokesman Kim Du-Hyon said, “[we are ]considering a universal player. We are preparing HD-DVD now, and if we launch a universal player, it will be the end of this year or early next year.”

However, either Mr Du-Hyon has got his facts wrong or he let out a bit of a secret as Samsung has responded with this statement.

“Samsung Electronics is fully committed to the Blu-ray format and currently only has plans to introduce a Blu-ray player to the market. Samsung is looking forward to a very successful launch of the BD-P1000 which will be available on retail shelves June 25th for a $999 MAP price in the United States.”

It seems Samsung is keen to look as though it is fully behind the Blu-Ray format, even if, in reality, it is sitting on the fence.
