WORLD FIRST: Pay Telstra Bills On Facebook

Forget socialising, you can now pay mobile bills on The Social Network.
Telstra Pre-Paid customers can now control their mobile account from Facebook with the ‘My Telstra Pre-Paid application’, unleashed today.

Australians are among the first in the world to get such a service via The Social Network.

Telstra users can check their balance, recharge their account with a debit/credit card and view up to 180 days of usage and recharge history.

And if users run out of credit, they can handily call on their Facebook friends for a top up using the ‘request credit from friends’ feature which puts a call out on their wall or via direct message.

Once signed up, the app sits in your Facebook homepage apps list, but transactions require a unique pin for authorisation.

And it all done “in just a few clicks”, says Warwick Bray, Exec Director, Telstra Mobile.

100,000 people have already “liked” Telstra24x7 customer service Facebook page.

In addition to the new Facebook app, Telstra is launching an Android app for Pre-Paid users to manage their service direct from their mobile.

“Our Pre-Paid customers love spending time connecting with friends on Facebook. We also know they find running out of credit a hassle. So we’re introducing the My Telstra Pre-Paid Facebook app which lets customers track their mobile balance, recharge their service and view usage history from one of the most popular places n the web.”

However, there’s no offical word from Telstra if such a service may be soon unleashed for postpaid customers but one company exec indicated to SmartHouse that it could be in the pipeline.

The new Facebook app “represented another important step in…develop[ing] more convenient and faster ways for customers to interact with us,” and the telco says it is important to build online sales and service experience for customers and ensure “we are where they are”-  online at telstra.com or in social media like Facebook and Twitter.

Customers who download the Telstra My Pre-Paid app will also be able to view and change their current Pre-Paid offer and send credit to another Pre-Paid service via Credit Me2U.

The app will launch “in the coming weeks” and will be available to download from the Google Play store on “select” handsets.
