Xbox’s Kinect 2 Knows When You’re Angry

Microsoft’s next generation Kinect device is believed to capture motion so accurately that it can read lips and tell when you’re angry.

A Eurogamer report which cites unnamed sources claims the ‘Kinect 2’ will be more sensitive to motion and offer voice recognition. The intention is to deliver a more immersing gaming experience by stimulating gamers through visual and auditory inputs.

The Kinect 2 is believed to be powerful enough to read lips and determine which direction they’re facing.

It also has the potential to measure a gamer’s emotional response by recognising the volume of their voice, their tonal pitch and facial characteristics. By doing so, it could identify when a player is feeling, for example, angry.

Although the current Kinect has been recognised as the fastest selling electronic device of all time (according to the Guinness Book of World Records), old USB technology capped how quickly it could communicate with an Xbox console.

Kinect 2 will address this issue, feeding more data to the next Xbox and delivering a high resolution charge-coupled device (CCD).

“It can be cabled straight through on any number of technologies that just take phenomenally high res data straight to the main processor and straight to the main RAM and ask, ‘what do you want to do with it?'” said Eurogamer’s source.
