YouTube Reportedly Working On Live 360-Degree Video

YouTube is working on supporting live-streaming 360-degree video, according to a BuzzFeed News report.Multiple sources familiar with YouTube’s plans have confirmed that it has been meeting with 360-degree camera manufacturers about adding support for live-streaming broadcasts to its platform, BuzzFeed has reported.

The move to next-gen video entertainment is gathering pace, and YouTube has been positioning itself to be at the forefront of the industry.

YouTube already supports 360-degree
videos, with the addition of 360-degree live-streaming potentially
representing a significant expansion of its video offerings.

YouTube added 360-degree video support in March last year, allowing viewers to experience different angles of a video as it plays, subsequently adding Google Cardboard support in May.

In November, YouTube added virtual reality video support for Google Cardboard and expanded its Google Cardboard options.

This year is set to see significant momentum developed in the virtual reality industry, with a number of companies set to release new technology, with next-gen video entertainment poised to become more accessible.

As reported by BuzzFeed, a launch timeline for live 360-degree video remains unclear.
